A Shiver of Light (Merry Gentry #9) by Laurell K. Hamilton Tara's Rating: 5/5 Stars
Book Blurb:
I am Princess Meredith NicEssus. Legal name Meredith Gentry, because “Princess” looks so pretentious on a driver’s license. I was the first faerie princess born on American soil, but I wouldn't be the only one for much longer...
Merry Gentry, ex–private detective, now full-time princess, knew she was descended from fertility goddesses, but when she learned she was about to have triplets, she began to understand what that might mean. Infertility has plagued the high ranks of faerie for centuries. Now nobles of both courts of faerie are coming to court Merry and her men, at their home in exile in the Western Lands of Los Angeles, because they will do anything to have babies of their own.
Taranis, King of Light and Illusion, is a more dangerous problem. He tried to seduce Merry and, failing that, raped her. He’s using the human courts to sue for visitation rights, claiming that one of the babies is his. And though Merry knows she was already pregnant when he took her, she can’t prove it.
To save herself and her babies from Taranis she will use the most dangerous powers in all of faerie: a god of death, a warrior known as the Darkness, the Killing Frost, and a king of nightmares. They are her lovers, and her dearest loves, and they will face down the might of the high courts of faerie—while trying to keep the war from spreading to innocent humans in Los Angeles, who are in danger of becoming collateral damage.

Tara's Reviews
Holy Crap, I am speechless! First and foremost, I should tell you that Merry has her babies! They are beautiful, unique, and gifted. Their fathers couldn't be happier and Merry is a great Mom. She thought that she was having twins to begin with, but it was revealed very early on that it is actually triplets. All three are born healthy and happy!
Aunty is still a bitch, but I guess she is trying. She is allowed to see the babies and seems to be on her very best behavior. Perhaps, this will be a turning around of sorts for her, but I truly doubt it. I wish she was a better person because Merry needs her ruthlessness to protect the babies and she should not have to protect them from the Queen.
Remember, I warned you about spoilers, so please stop reading if you do not want to know!
Merry discovers in this book that she loves Sholto, King of the Sluagh. She loves all of him including all his "bits". The fact that fairy married them is something special to both of them. He is happy to have a child with Merry but feels separated from his child in the beginning. He has to work at the bond between father and child. He realizes that it isn't an automatic bond like mother and child, but he finds it with all of the babies. None of the fathers separate them by parentage.
I am distraught of this book as well as ecstatic! Laurell K. Hamilton has removed one of the fathers. He is executed by Merry's uncle, the King of Light and Illusion. My heart was ripped to shreds! He was one of my favorites and has been with Merry since the very first book. Their love was one that grew over time and it breaks my heart! I do not know what Hamilton is going to do know, but I need to know immediately!
“What is that old children’s rhyme, ‘Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me’? Anyone who says that doesn’t understand the power of words. They can cut deeper than any knife, hit harder than any fist, touch parts of you that nothing physical will ever reach, and the wounds that some words leave never heal, because each time the word is thrown at you, labeled on you, you bleed afresh from it. It’s more like a whip that cuts every time, until you feel it must flay the very skin from your bones, and yet outwardly there is no wound to show the world, so they think you are not hurt, when inside part of you dies every time.”
